A Word From The Charter Chapter Historian

My name is Joseph L. McDonald; and though I am—and have been—a Brother of Gamma Phi Delta Christian Fraternity, Incorporated since 1997; most in The Fraternity know and reference me primarily by the Biblical name I was given while going through the Orientation Process in 1997--Solomon.

Our Visionary President (founding President of the Fraternity)

personally thanked me for being "a caring Frat Brother" and a "Catalyst For Change".

One interesting fact--and an extremely rare occurrence within The Fraternity--my Orientation Brothers (OB's) also gave me the second Biblical name "Jedidiah" which is the GOD given name of Solomon.

I am also the Charter Secretary / Historian, Webmaster, and Publicity Chairman of the 7th Chapter of Gamma Phi Delta Christian Fraternity, Incorporated (G Phi D) known as Eta Judges Chapter (EJC).  I am #8 of 8 Chapter Charters and it is my honor and privilege--as the Charter Historian of Eta Judges Chapter--to take you on a very brief and thorough historical journey of the very first Chapter of G Phi D established in the state of Louisiana.

About us

As I look back over the years past, I am in awe that all of this started with Tim, the Charter Chapter President, telling a handful of us that there was an interest meeting for a Christian fraternity on October 14, 1997, Tuesday. None of us, not even Tim who told us about it, knew the name of the fraternity or what the fraternity. was about.  All we knew was that it was something new and something Christian, thus we stepped out on faith & childlike curiosity.   I recall more than a dozen young men showed up for the interest meeting; however, it would be seen later that , only about 5 would actually remain faithful and dedicated to complete the orientation process. The others either quit coming to the meetings or simply did not show up at all after the interest meeting.  Others would later arrive and show some interest; however, only a handful of them would actually remain and complete the orientation process.  The official count of faithful few young men that actually crossed the finish line by completing the orientation process was a total blessed number of eight (8) young men.

And so it was that In 1997, a group of 8 faithful, determined, and like-minded young men chartered the establishment of Eta Judges Chapter at Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana on November 12, 1997 under the guidance of our Lord GOD and the National Counsel of Gamma Phi Delta Christian Fraternity, Incorporated.  Unknown to us at the time; this Chapter--upon its successful establishment--was unique and distinguished in several ways.  Eta Judges Chapter (EJC) is the very first Chapter of Gamma Phi Delta Christian Fraternity, Inc. established in the state of Louisiana, the very first Chapter established during the Fall Semester, and the third Chapter established outside of the state of Texas during G Phi D’s Year of Expansion.

Our Chapter is represented with and by a group of diverse men who endeavor to always strive for the highest level of excellence in everything done, just as our Fraternity Founders (Visionaries) intended.  We share goals and interests in areas of life, service, academics, and the building of solid relationships through Christian Brotherhood & Fellowship.  We embrace and holdfast to the Three Pillars of our Fraternity (Fellowship, Evangelism, Discipleship) and our Chapter Creed (Semper Fidelis To GOD On High).  These basic principles--along with humbleness, dedication, smart work, and hard work-- and our faithfulness, commitment, and dedication to The Lord GOD; help to hold and keep our Chapter together and define who are we.
